Pfizer Building its Distribution Network for Inlyta
Pfizer received approval from the FDA on January 27th for their new drug, Inlyta (axitinib) for the treatment of renal cell carcinoma (kidney cancer).
Inlyta is just 1 of 7 drugs approved for the treatment of metastatic or advanced kidney cancer since 2005. Inlyta is an oral tablet taken twice daily and works by blocking certain proteins called, kinases that play a role in tumor growth and cancer progression (FDA.gov).
Testing of Inlyta was evaluated in an open-label, single randomized, multi-center clinical study of roughly 700 patients whose disease had progressed on or after treatment with one prior systemic therapy.
The study was developed to track the amount of time a patient went without showing signs of cancer progression. The conclusion showed that patients taking the drug lived an average of 2 months longer without sign of cancer progression (from 4.7 months to 6.7 months).
The Apothecary Shops and Biologics, Inc. recently signed agreements with Pfizer to start carrying and dispensing Inlyta, effective immediately.
