SXC Health Solutions Continues its Acquisition Spree
In the company’s largest transaction to date, SXC Health Solutions agreed to acquire HealthTrans for $250 million in cash. HealthTrans provides HCIT and PBM services to approximately 260 clients generating revenue of $270 million.
HealthTrans, one of the nation’s largest privately-held PBMs, processes approximately 100 million claims annually for clients, representing 15.3 million lives and approximately $4 billion in prescription drug spend.
SXC’s strategy, as described in Knowledge Source’s Pharmacy Benefit Managers Market Overview, seeks to enhance its position as a leading provider of technology-enabled PBM services to the pharmaceutical supply chain in North America. The Company’s primary strategies include:
- Expand the breadth of the Company’s informedRx services for health plans, self-insured employers and government agencies that sponsor pharmacy benefit plans.
- Provide additional informedRx services to the Company’s existing payor customer base.
- Target large public sector fee-for-service opportunities.
- Aggressively pursue large health plan technology upgrades.
- Sell HCIT solutions throughout the LTC/institutional pharmacy market.
- Pursue strategic acquisition opportunities.
- Broaden the Company’s services, technology and markets through next generation growth opportunities.
SXC Health Solutions announced two previous acquisitions this year:
- MedMetricsHealth Partners: brings to the marketplace full-service PBM support coupled with a highly unique combination of academically-driven, evidence-based clinical programming and a unique, 100 percent transparent , pass-through business model.
- PTRx utilizes a fully integrated approach to pharmacy benefit management by proactively engaging and working with the patient and their physician. This integrated approach to determining the most effective drug therapy for the lowest possible cost allows it to successfully control and manage pharmacy costs.
